Skyler was born in North Carolina, but after a brief time in Virginia, her family moved to Northwest Florida, where she lived until she moved to St. Petersburg for college last fall. Skyler is a first year biology major at the University of South Florida St. Petersburg. She attended a collegiate high school, so although she is just entering her second semester at college, she completed her associates degree in the fall of 2018. Skyler will graduate in 2022, and from there she will pursue a doctorate in physical therapy with the hope of specializing in pediatrics. Being a ROC is important to Skyler because it is an amazing way to spread the word and help others in the community. One of her favorite stories is about a boy who was tossing beached starfish back into the ocean. A man asked why he bothered because he couldn’t save them all, but instead of being discouraged he said that at least he made a difference to that one.
Will is a third year student at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities and hopes to graduate in May of 2020. He is currently the co-president of his chapter along with ROC alumna Mara Stephan. His interest in Food Recovery is driven by a desire to make a more efficient and equitable food system. Will decided to be an ROC because of his great experience at last year's Regional Summit, and wanted to help continue the event. In his free time, Will enjoys curling, cooking/watching cooking shows, and mountain biking.
Tatum is in her senior year at the University of South Florida, St. Petersburg. She became interested in being an ROC because of the wonderfully planned and coordinated event, National Food Recovery Dialogue 2017, and how it brought FRN chapters closer together. She is thrilled to be working with the ROC team to organize and bring new ideas about for the Food Recovery Summit for the Southeast region. She enjoys finding new hiking trails and going to the beach. On the weekends, she tends to her plants and loves to have people over for dinner. Just a fun fact - she is terrified of raccoons. In middle school, she became vegetarian after a fad and is going on 9 years strong of being a vegetarian!
Roni is in her last semester at USF St. Petersburg studying Economics and Finance, graduating in May 2019. She has called this waterfront campus home for the last 4 years and couldn’t be more proud to represent USF St. Petersburg as a ROC. From being in USFSP’s Student Government, to mentoring 1st year students, and now recovering food twice a week, Roni strives to make change in every environment she encounters. As a result of growing up at the base of the Wasatch Mountains in Utah, and living along the coast of Florida, her passion for the environment has been embedded in her life.
She believes change starts with you and every step toward that change is worth the energy invested, which is why she is thrilled to be a ROC! She is excited to see how her passion for the environment can intertwine with her experiences in business relations, as well as meet like minded individuals across the nation! Elena graduated from Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) in 2016 where she studied International Business and Marketing. As co-founder of IUP’s FRN chapter, she built relationships with other groups on campus to enhance and expand the impact of FRN. In her free time, she enjoys cooking, talking about food issues, and working to improve her sprint triathlon time. Elena is excited to be part of Food Recovery Network as a Regional Outreach Coordinator and looks forward to facilitating an opportunity for FRN’s young leaders to share ideas.
Grace was born and raised in Chicago and now attends Carleton College in Northfield, Minnesota. On campus, she serves as one of the Program Directors for her chapter of FRN. She is majoring in Sociology and Anthropology with a focus in the environment and food systems. Grace also works with their dining provider Bon Appétit to promote sustainability on campus. She is excited to be a ROC because she believes connecting with other FRNds and learning from each other is one of the best ways to spread the movement. In her free time, she enjoys hiking, yoga, watercoloring, and baking.
Amanda is a sophomore in the business school at the University of Denver. She hopes to major in business management, minor in psychology, and go in to human resources post- graduation. Amanda enjoys helping others, whether it be in the classroom, with her friends, or in the greater community. Food Recovery Network has been a great outlet for this passion and the opportunity to be a Regional Outreach Coordinator was yet another way to further this drive.
Amanda loves the mission of FRN and hopes to encourage more people to see the value in the organization and become a part of it, as well. Outside of FRN, Amanda can be found organizing her family’s next month-long road trip, watching the latest and greatest TV series, or spending time outside in her beautiful native home, Colorado.
Lizzie is a senior at Washington College, graduating in December of 2019 with a B.S. in Psychology. After graduation, she plans to serve with Americorps for a year and then earn her Master’s in Public Administration with a concentration in either Non-Profit Management or Public Policy.
Lizzie has been involved with her Food Recovery Network chapter since its inception. She wanted to become a ROC to help establish and strengthen the connections between local chapters, and to share the love that she has for FRN. In her spare time, Lizzie enjoys reading philosophical texts, watching her favorite stand-up comics, and taking trips with her friends.
Nicole is a freshman at Pitzer College in Claremont, CA. FRN and the ROC position appeals to Nicole because it allows her to build on her interests in alleviating food insecurity across communities. She first became involved in her local food justice movement during high school when she coordinated stakeholders in the development of a community garden and fruit tree guild at an affordable housing complex in her community. When not in class or at work, she enjoys running, riding her bike along the Atlanta BeltLine, browsing the stalls of farmers’ markets, community gardening, cooking Italian food, and hiking. Upon graduation, she is interested in starting a career in community development and neighborhood revitalization.
